Hi! I'm Rachel Goeman, I'm a young photographer trying to find her place in this world. In my work I try to find peace and tranquility, both in the subject and in the photos themselves.
I would rather find my work romantic. By that I mean that it is a combination between an escape from reality and giving a double layer in meaning, I do this with detail in light and shapes. Photography is a way for me to find things from home in different places. I like to photograph things that remind me of 'home'. Not in a house-like way, but more like people, thoughts and things.
My job
How long can you say that you are not doing well for a while before you go back to your socially desirable behavior?
As a photographer I deal with themes within psychology. I depict subjects that are not visible as physical objects. I find the translation of mental problems/feelings, such as in my own case fear and panic, interesting because here you enter a personal experience. It is valuable to me that others can recognize themselves in the work I make. My work can be described as sketching a feeling. I want to make this world open to discussion with protection of vulnerability (2022).
How do you let go of the perfection you so desperately want everyone to see?
By making subjects like fear/panic physical, from shooting to final form, I create an experience.
I do this through digital and analog photography. By dropping my own concealment curtain and photographing myself at times during fear and panic, I let go of my desired perfection for a moment. Finding my place in the world.
